Stan's Firehouse Grill serves a variety of great food and Hanks Martin music
It was Saturday night and things were right at Stan’s Firehouse Grill on Nimmo Pkwy in Virginia Beach.
Their menu ranged from sandwiches to dinners and appetizers like one of my favorites — steak bites (and that steak was as tender as a mother’s love).
The place was very clean and quaint. The waitress was very pleasant and super attentive.
The entertainment was just the cream on top. The Hanks Martin Band played to a near capacity crowd who were very much into the group.
From Waylon and Cash to the blues, a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll with the crowd pleasing sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughan this music variety proved to be a real crowd pleaser.
The aggregation includes Hanks Martin — lead vocals, lead guitar; Marty Rogers — vocals, drums; Steve Meszaros — vocals, bass guitar.
Their sound were tight and their musical talent evident. They never played over one another. They truly played together. It was a great fit. Hanks Martin did a fabulous job singing and pickin’ on “Folsom Prison Blues.”
The most surprising aspect of the night was when special guest and restaurant owner Stan Glaser join the group on stage for a few rocking tunes of his own.
His commanding voice and soulful vocal grit was a great highlight and a big hit with the audience. (Loved his rendition of “The Dock of the Bay.” )
He remained on stage for a few more songs as backup harmony for Hanks Martin.
All in all, it was an authentic encounter with food, friends and music. The compatibility of this group and this venue make a great match.
I predict this relationship will make for more memorable experiences in the future.
